Three Trails Behavioral Hospital, $60M Facility Opens in Independence

Three Trails Behavioral Hospital, a 120-bed healthcare facility, has opend it doors in Independence, Missouri.

The hospital is located at 20501 E 42nd Street in South Blue Springs and marks a $60 million investment in behavioral healthcare services for individuals across Western Missouri. Three Trails will also create more than 200 new, full-time jobs, including nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff, according to a release shared with Ingram’s.

“Three Trails Behavioral Hospital was designed to provide safe, high-quality care for individuals at different ages and stages of life,” Coleby Wright, CEO of Three Trails Behavioral Hospital, said in the release. “With 120 new beds and a range of inpatient and outpatient services, we are increasing access to specialized treatment close to home while becoming an important part of the broader healthcare community in Western Missouri.”

The 88,000-square-foot facility serves adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort. An activity yard and gym can also be found on the premises.

Three Trails officially opened earlier in September. A ribbon-cutting event was held with civic leaders and members from the Greater Kansas City and Independence Chambers.

Three Trails also operates under Universal Health Services, Inc. Founded in 1979, UHS is headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and has around 101,500 employees and operates 30 inpatient acute care facilities, more than 380 inpatient behavioral health facilities and approximately 170 outpatient and other facilities. UHS operates its subsidiaries in 39 U.S. States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. In 2025, UHS reported revenues of approximately $17.4 billion.
