HCA Midwest Health Names Kimberly Swan VP of Graduate Medical Education

HCA Midwest Health announced Dr. Kimberly Swan has been named vice president of graduate medical education.

The new Graduate Medical Education (GME) position is an expanded role for Swan, where she will oversee HCA Midwest Health’s institutional accreditation, sponsoring institution governance and the continued development of residency and fellowship programs.

Prior to this announcement, Dr. Swan served as associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She was also the founding program director of the Overland Park Regional Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program.

“I have spent much of my career caring for patients and educating physicians, and I have seen firsthand the impact a strong residency or fellowship program can have on physicians, hospitals and communities,” Swan said in the release. “I look forward to working with our faculty, residents, fellows and hospital leaders to build on the strong foundation already in place and continue developing programs that prepare physicians to deliver high-quality, compassionate care throughout their careers.”

HCA Midwest Health’s GME program first launched in 2017. Today, the health system has seen more than 180 physicians graduate from the program. In 2026, 12 accredited residency and fellowship programs will train approximately 200 residents and fellows across HCA Midwest Health, according to a release.

Swan earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and fellowship training at AdventHealth Celebration in Celebration, Florida. She earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of Saint Mary.

“Dr. Swan brings the unique perspective of a physician, educator, program builder and leader,” Keith Zimmerman, president of HCA Midwest Health, said in the release. “Her experience and vision will be important as we continue to grow our programs and develop physicians who are prepared to lead the future of healthcare.”

The HCA Midwest Health system includes seven hospitals and dozens of surrounding facilities throughout the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. The system employs more than 10,000 colleagues and has a local economic impact of more than $1.4 billion annually.
