Mayor Lucas Recommends Kevin McManus to Fill Seat on Kansas City Council

Mayor Quinton Lucas has recommended Kevin McManus to fill the 6th District At-Large seat on the Kansas City Council.

McManus represented the 6th District on the City Council from 2015 to 2023, serving as Mayor Pro Tem for his final term. If McManus were selected, he would fill the remainder of Bough’s term, ending August 1, 2027. The 6th District is comprised of Waldo, Brookside, the Country Club Plaza, the Red Bridge Area, Martin City and UMKC.

The recommendation will go before the City Council during the Thursday, September 3 meeting.

The 6th District At-Large seat was left vacant following Andrea Bough’s departure to lead the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City on August 26. Bough has served on the City Council since 2019.

“Kevin McManus has spent his career serving Kansas City, and I’m confident he’s the right person to represent the voices of South Kansas City as we build a safer, more vibrant, and more accessible community for families and neighborhoods in a vital part of our city,” Lucas said in a Thursday release.

Before serving his term, McManus represented South Kansas City in the Missouri General Assembly for three terms. Today, McManus is the owner of Kevin McManus Law Injury & Disability Attorneys, where he also serves as an attorney.

McManus has pledged not to run for election to any elected position in the 2027 municipal elections, according to the release.
