Bonner Springs Planning Commissioners have approved the rezoning request for a $539 million entertainment and amusement park district.

Project Destination KCK, an approximately 180-acre site at 118th Street and State Avenue, received approval for an entertainment and amusement park district across several properties, including 12301, 12215 and 11801 State Avenue, as well as 720 N. 118th Street.

Destination KCK will also generate approximately 1,750 new jobs in the region.

The project is being led by Glendale, Arizona-based Epic Resort Destinations. In February, the developer acquired all 180 acres of the site and said construction efforts for the project would soon follow.

The anchor for the entertainment district will be the Mattel Adventure Park, which will feature attractions from properties such as Barbie, Hot Wheels and Thomas & Friends. The park will also feature a 12-acre lake in its center. Mattel Adventure Park is estimated to cost nearly $158 million. Hotels and other entertainment venues will also be located in teh district.

Following the recent approval from the planning commissioners, the Bonner Springs City Council is scheduled to review the request during its meeting on Monday April, 13.

The city council first issued a STAR Bond District for the development in April 2024. A development agreement was approved by city council members in October 2025.

Epic Resort Destinations has until 2027 to begin vertical construction, according to the development agreement, while the park is expected to be completed in 2030.
