The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City has announced the appointment of Floyd May III as president, with his new role set to begin in early October.
In July 2024, the former president of the Civic Council, Dred Scott, stepped down from his position. Since then, Vice President Consuelo Ross has been serving as the interim president. Following a national search, May is expected to begin his new role in early October 2025, according to a release.
May brings with him 20 years of leadership experience from the public and private sectors. He most recently served as the chief information officer at Kansas City-based SelectQuote, Inc., where he led the company’s cybersecurity program.
In the public sector, May previously held senior operational roles with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 13 years. Furthermore, May served as a deputy administrator for the Government of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC, for two years.
“I am honored to join The Civic Council, an organization with a proud history of fostering prosperity that lifts up our entire community,” May said in the release. “As a native of this area, I admire and genuinely respect The Civic Council’s deep history of improving the quality of life in Kansas City. I am energized by the opportunity to lead this work forward in partnership with leaders across our community to create an even stronger future for our region.”
May graduated from Pembroke Hill School and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Howard University as Cum Laude in 1998.
“Floyd is a seasoned and strategic leader, having served at the highest levels of government in Washington, D.C., and as a top executive for one of Kansas City’s most successful companies,” Civic Council Board Chair and Dentons US Board Member, Lisa Krigsten, said in the release. “From healthcare to defense to energy, our region has clear economic opportunity. The Civic Council is laser-focused on advancing these opportunities to create Kansas City’s next chapter of inclusive prosperity, and we look forward to Floyd skillfully amplifying The Civic Council’s transformational impact.”
Founded in 1964, the Civic Council is a coalition of Kansas City’s most prominent business and civic leaders dedicated to strengthening economic growth, advocating for systemic equity and inclusion, and collaborating on solutions for sustainable regional prosperity for all.
