A developer is working to revive plans for a nearly 120,000 square foot hotel connected to the Hollywood Casino.
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Planning Commission reviewed a rezoning request on Monday that would change 4.4 acres of an agriculture district to a planned general business district. The project developer, PMG Asset Services, LLC, hopes to build a six-story, 118,621 square foot, 140-room casino hotel and parking lot at 10701 State Avenue and 501 Speedway Boulevard.
The hotel would be located along the intersection of Daytona Drive and Martinsville Drive, with the Kansas Speedway racetrack to the north and the Hollywood Casino to the east. The majority of the site is an existing parking lot for the Hollywood Casino.
Plans for a connecting hotel for the Hollywood Casino have been in discussion for over a decade, but have fallen through. Previous planning actions included a preliminary development plan for a 248-room hotel and ballroom in 2014; however, the developer at the time, Kansas Entertainment LLC, decided to postpone construction operations for the hotel due to economic conditions.
The Unified Government Board of Commissioners is scheduled to review the zoning request on September 25.
