The De Soto City Council has approved a development project for a new data center building near the Panasonic plant.
During the City Council meeting on Thursday, voted to approve the new data center, which will be located near the northwest corner of 103rd St. and Edgerton Rd. The development site sits in the Flint Commerce Center and would span 290 acres. No rezoning is needed for the development site. East of the development site rests the $4 billion Panasonic electric-vehicle battery plant, which began mass production last month.
The developer, California-based Beale Infrastructure, plans to begin construction of the more than 1 million square foot industrial building in 2026 and expects a completion of phase one of the project in 2027.
The construction for the project will be developed in two phases, consisting of two buildings for each phase. The first phase will focus on two 285,000-square-foot buildings located on the southwest side of the site.

Upon completion, the data center is expected to create over 100 new jobs in the area.
De Soto also approved a maximum of $50 billion in industrial revenue bonds for the project. The IRB would provide a tax abatement and sales tax exemption for costs of construction materials, equipment, furnishings, and certain labor services. Additionally, the bond would provide a 10-year tax abatement for each of the four buildings with no new abatements issued after 2040.
Last week, Meta announced that it has officially opened its $1 billion data center near Interstate 435 and U.S. 169 highway. That data center first broke ground in 2022 and generated an average peak of 1,500 trade workers on site, and is estimated to support more than 100 jobs when fully operational.
