KU Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital of OP Align Services

The Kansas City region’s largest medical center, The University of Kansas Hospital, announced today that it was launching a partnership with Rehabilitation Hospital of Overland Park to provide services for patients throughout the Midwest.

In a news release announcing the move, the hospital said that the joint venture would provide additional capacity for its rehab patients through the Overland Park facility’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, the only one of its kind in the metropolitan area.  Medical leadership will be provided by The University of Kansas Physicians.

The move comes a little more than a year after KU opened a state-of-the-art 29-bed comprehensive rehabilitation unit. And, while patient volumes have remained high since that opening, officials say, it was seeking additional capacity in Johnson County.

“We always look for a cultural fit with our patient-focused approach and we found that in the Rehabilitation Hospital of Overland Park,” said Bob Page, KU Hospital’s CEO.  “The synergies of these two programs will offer patients many options for optimal rehabilitative outcomes. We are especially excited about the hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, which is an excellent fit with our nationally-accredited Level I Trauma Program, the only one in the metropolitan Kansas City area.”

Anthony Misitano, president and CEO of Post Acute Medical, parent of the rehab facility, said that partnering with the academic medical center “not only provides access to care for those patients who can most benefit from these services, but also it provides the opportunity to redefine state-of-the-art rehabilitative care in the region.”
