Trent Green

Green, 34, is more than a Pro Bowl quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. While the stats back him up as an outstanding leader on the field, the 11-year NFL signal caller leads the Trent Green Family Foundation downfield in its efforts to support families with chroni-cally or terminally ill children or seniors. In addition, the Foundation provides and enhances educational opportunities for children whose families lack the financial means to do so. Some of the ventures that have been supported by the Foundation include the Child Life Assistant position at Children’s Mercy Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, Meals on Wheels, the Heart of a Champion Character Development program, a college scholarship fund that will begin awarding college scholarships later this year and the Niles Home for Children. Trent’s wife, Julie, plays a key role in the Trent Green Family Foundation, and sons T.J. (8) and Derek (5) help with delivering meals to elderly shut-ins as part of the Meals on Wheels program, making it truly a “family” foundation.

Mark Hulet

Hulet, 38, is the Vice President of Capital Asset Management for the YMCA. He has advanced quickly within the YMCA struc- ture, beginning his career as the Center Executive Director for the Green Family YMCA. He had served as Senior Center Executive Director and Vice President of Member Services before assuming his current role last August. In that role, he is responsible for developing new ventures for the YMCA in Kansas City. As an example, the YMCA now operates the two new Platte County Community Centers in Platte City and Parkville. He currently is overseeing the construction of two new facilities in Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas. Mark spends most of his charitable and volunteer time with YMCA-sponsored programs and services, and at the Noland Road Baptist Church. He enjoys working for an organization that recognizes the importance of family. As a single parent of Keagan (8) and Killian (5), he appreciates the freedom to make a commitment to them.

Mayor David Jones

St. Joseph, Mo., is a rising star on the Kansas City horizon, in no small part because of the leadership of Jones, 34, who has been Mayor for the past three years. He was first named to the city council in 1994 while still in his early 20s; he was re-elected to a second term in 1998. A native of St. Joseph who even attended college in the city at Missouri Western State College, he says he “will not accept anything less than the best” for his hometown. Under his leadership, the city council adopted a comprehensive “Clean Appearance Plan” and the city has announced 2,800 new jobs for 2005. As mayor, he has enhanced partnerships between the city, the county and local business. He calls himself “a con- sensus builder who facilitates cooperation rather than creating confrontation.” Jones also works as a Process Leader for Support Services for Heartland Health. He and his wife, Cyndie, have three children: Derek Hansen (20), Brynn Hansen (18) and Jordan Jones (3).

Khensa Karim

Karim, 37, is the Executive Director for SMACNA-KC (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association). She is a two-time honoree by the Kansas City Area Development Council for her efforts in forming the KCADC Construction Partners program, combining the efforts of area business and union leaders. Since coming to SMACNA in 2001, she has represented the sheet metal industry on the local and national levels, and developed comprehensive educational programs for labor and management. She also negotiated the first OSHA-Sheet Metal Work Safe Partner-ship in the country. She came to SMACNA with a marketing background, having served as a Vice President of Finance and Incentive Marketing for M3 Marketing Group. Khensa also serves as Vice Chairman and Executive Committee member for the Greater Kansas City Labor-Management Council, where she helped refocus the mission, and as a board member for the Alliance for Specialty Contractors. She is the single mother of Michael Dee (15).
