Fasten Your Seat Belts—It’s ACA Implementation TimeWhen, back in March 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare or, for our purposes, the Affordable Care Act, many people, perhaps most, thought it would never become a reality. The Supreme Court would intervene or a Republican president would undo it or the Obama administration itself would, if nothing else, delay its implantation. With the first two of those possibilities moot, and the third unlikely, we thought it prudent to gather professionals who might be affected the most to discuss the ACA’s impending implementation and its impact on businesses. Helping in this endeavor were our co-sponsors Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City and the Lockton Companies. On May 31, the ACA experts from those two companies met at Lockton’s Country Club Plaza headquarters with knowledgeable representatives from a wide range of area business to assess how the ACA will play out in real life. This was Ingram’s 14th annual Healthcare Industry Outlook and, quite likely, the most important. Chairing the assembly were David Gentile, president and CEO of Blue KC, and Rick Kahle, president of Lockton’s employee benefits division.
