Collaboration Key to
Bioscience Success
Tom Thornton, Kansas Bioscience Authority president, cut to the chase when asked to cite the “surmountable challenges” the bioscience industry faces.
“One of them is actually present right here around the room,” said Thornton,“and that is collaboration.”
The “room” in question is located at 2049 Wyandotte in the heart of KansasCity’s Freight House District. It is the conference room of Ingram’s Magazine, which was staging the Bioscience Industry Outlook Assembly as part of its on going commitment to regional development.
Sponsoring the event on this pleasant early May morning were the KansasCity Area Life Science Institute (KCALSI) and the Midwest Research Institute(MRI). Chairing the Assembly were Bill Duncan, president of KCALSI, and Jim Spigarelli, president of MRI and former chair of the board of KCALSI.
Present were a score or more of top-level leaders from throughout the bioscience industry including representatives from Kansas State, the Univer-sity of Kansas, the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and KansasCity University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB).
