The Military Factor: Economic Might, Talented Workers

On July 9, 2014, Lt. Gen. Robert Arter, a board member of the Armed Forces Bank, attended his first Industry Outlook assembly in Year 15 of Ingram’s ongoing series. This was also Ingram’s first Industry Outlook recognizing with the role veterans do play and can play in the greater Kansas City work force.

Gen. Arter had seen a fair share of the world before sitting in at the Ingram’s assembly, hosted graciously by the Dickinson Financial Corp. and Armed Forces Bank at its Town Center Pavilion offices, and co-sponsored by Park University. Arter was commissioned a second lieutenant of infantry in 1950 and sent to Korea, where war was then raging. In 1968, he commanded a battalion in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam and returned to Vietnam three years later to command the First Brigade, 101st.

In 1973, Arter was promoted to brigadier general. Upon retiring some years later—with a Silver Star, a Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Service Medal to his credit—Arter successfully used his leadership skills in his new role as president and CEO of the Armed Forces Bank in Leavenworth.
