The Mardi
Gras Blues

So here it is: Fat Tuesday and you’re ready to PAR-TY! You know it’s the climax for a season of merriment that began on the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, and you’re ready for the biggest night of the year—parades, masks, parties deluxe, costumes, beads, music. Ah, the music calls.

You can answer that call by joining the busloads of happy folk on the 11th Annual Mardi Gras Blues Club Crawl on Tuesday night, Feb. 12. The 2002 Club Crawl, largest and most festive ever, will have 21 clubs hosting the more than 3,500 guests expected, with headliners from all over the U.S. as well as hometown favorites entertaining the throngs.

The absolute best way to participate in the revelry is to hop a bus along one of three basic routes, according to Stan Koron, president of the Kansas City Blues Society, which is sponsoring the evening. “This eliminates the parking issues plus you get to share a bit of time with other blues lovers.”

And if the last time you went on the crawl you boarded yellow school buses, you’ll be glad to know that now there are 13 big, plush coaches that will stop at every location every 10 minutes. There are three main routes—Southtown, Midtown, and Downtown—with hubs so that you can transfer from one to another or head over to Kansas City, Kan., to catch KC Kelsey or DC Bellamy and America’s Most Wanted Blues Band. With a cost of only $15 at the first door, the crawl is a bargain.

Can’t be in New Orleans for Mardi Gras? No matter. Kansas City’s own Fat Tuesday is a simple trip, starting at one of 21 locations. The night is just for you and the blues.

The Kansas City Blues Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting our blues heritage. For more information, visit the Kansas City Blues Society Web site at www.kcbluessociety.com or call Stan Koron at 913.649.0383.
