Spring into Health Event Hosted by UnitedHealthcare Connects People Who are Elderly, Physically Disabled or Have a Traumatic Brain Injury to Community Resources

WHAT:                 A free, public Spring into Health event for people who are elderly, physically disabled or have a traumatic brain injury, as well as their families and caretakers is planned for May 31, hosted by UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas, Lifewise Renovations and the Brain Injury Association of Greater KC.

Spring into Health will include presentations about work programs, home and community based services. In addition to resources from Lifewise, the Brain Injury Association and UnitedHealthcare, attendees will hear from Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker Doug Sikkel on the Kansas Waiver Program, Benefits Specialist Terry Cronin on the Work Program and Madeline Giesler with Community Works on the Kansas End Dependence Program.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in educational games and raffles. They will also receive information about UnitedHealthcare’s value added benefits for members, education on important health topics and health care resource materials. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be provided.

* UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas, Lifewise Renovations, Brain Injury Association of Kansas, and other community organizations’ including Wolcott Foods, Alliance Home Health, Community Works, Another Day, JC Aging and Disability Resources Services, Coalition for Independence, HELPERS Inc., Vocational Rehab Services, KDADS, Working Healthy, Whole Person, Minds Matters, Johnson County Mental Health and Mid-America Rehab Hospital.

WHY:                    UnitedHealthcare Community Plan is hosting this event in partnership with Lifewise Renovations the Brain Injury Association of Greater KC to help people who are elderly, physically disabled or have a traumatic brain injury understand the resources and support available to them. The Spring into Health event is part of a series of community events taking place throughout the state by UnitedHealthcare Community Plan to provide people with important health resources and information.

 

 

VISUALS:             Interviews with UnitedHealthcare representatives, partner organizations and attending guests. The first 30 attendees will receive a gift bag after they register. The Brain Injury Association will have a display title “Unmasking Brain Injury,” which will include more than 30 mounted masks with narratives surrounding what it’s like to live with a brain injury.
