According to the data-analysis website, FiveThirtyEight.com, St. Joseph, Missouri ranks 5th among metro areas with the fastest-growing rates of new startups (businesses less than a year old).
Basing its findings on data from 2014, the report puts three Missouri metros in the top five: St. Louis (2), Springfield (4) and St. Joseph (5).
The report says, “It isn’t surprising to see Missouri making progress. Both the state’s public and private sectors have been unusually aggressive in promoting entrepreneurship.”
Missouri’s Governor Jay Nixon responded happily to the news, citing a “collaborative and supportive environment,” among the factors contributing to the state’s top-five success. He also said, “Our high quality of life and low cost of living continue to position Missouri as the place where firms start, thrive, and create high-tech jobs.”
