JE Dunn Gets Contract for KCI Parking Garage

Kansas City-based JE Dunn has been awarded the $100 million contract for the parking garage at the new KCI terminal.  The announcement was made Wednesday morning by Edgemoor team member Clark, Weitx, Clarkson (CWC), the joint venture responsible for the design and construction of the new terminal.

CWC Vice President Mark Goodwin calls the addition of the local construction giant a “win for the project, and the City.”  “JE Dunn’s national reputation for quality work and strong local relationships make them a great partner and addition to our growing team; we’re proud to have them on board,” notes Goodwin.

The parking garage will consist of seven levels and is estimated to include 6,500 parking spaces.  That’s about a 50 percent increase compared to what KCI currently has.  JE Dunn is the design-builder for the project meaning they will lead the engineering and architectural design of the project and is also responsible for coordinating design with the terminal building.

As noted in the Kansas City Star, JE Dunn nearly missed out on any contracts with the new terminal when the city council voted to go with Edgemoor instead of Burns & McDonnell.  In today’s press release, JE Dunn’s Midwest Region President Paul Neidlein said, “We are excited to join the Edgemoor Team and work alongside Clark, Weitz, and Clarkson to deliver critical infrastructure that will have a positive impact on the Kansas City economy for decades to come.  JE Dunn is focused on delivering the best result for Kansas City and is committed to utilizing small, local firms to achieve that outcome.”

The groundbreaking for the new terminal is expected to happen this fall with construction activity starting in early 2019.
