EyeVerify Confirms Sale to Alibaba Subsidiary

Ingram’s has confirmed reports that Kansas City-based EyeVerify, the biometrics startup founded by entrepreneur Toby Rush, is being purchased by Ant Financial, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group Holding, Ltd.

In confirming the sale, Tinna Hung, Director of Marketing for EyeVerify, told Ingram’s “We’re excited. It’s something we’ve been working on with Ant Financial for two years and we feel it’s a natural evolution for the company.”

The company is not releasing financial details of the sale, cautioning inquirers to not believe everything they read.

Founded in 2012, EyeVerify is the creator of Eyeprint ID, a biometric technology for smart devices that delivers what the company calls, “a password-free mobile experience with convenient, secure, private authentication.” EyeprintID uses the existing cameras on mobile devices identify and match blood vessels and various other features in and around the eye.
