Brownback will resign January 31st

In a tweet posted on Thursday, Governor Sam Brownback announced he will resign as Kansas Governor on January 31st.

On Wednesday, the US Senate advanced Brownback’s nomination as the Amabassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom with a narrow 50-49 vote.  The tie-breaking vote was cast by Vice President Mike Pence.  Brownback has one final vote to go before officially taking over the post.

In the tweet, Brownback said “It has been a great honor to serve and represent Kansans for most of my adult life. Thank you for this opportunity to serve, and may God Bless our great state and nation.”

Lieutenant Governor Jeff Colyer now takes over as the interim Governor and he will appoint another Lt. Gov. in his stead.  The 2018 gubernatorial election for Kansas will take place November 6th.
